“Today I affirm that there is nothing in me but love. This love comes from total acceptance of myself and the understanding that I am perfectly imperfect human being.” Jackson Kiddard
I was thinking about perfection versus imperfection the other day. And it dawned on me that there have been many times that I waited until I, a situation or circumstance was perfect before I would put myself into action. I now realize that waiting for things to be perfect is just another way of making excuses for not taking action. I now try my best just to act on things and not worry whether it is perfect or not because things always work out in the end, and you can tweak things along the way. And I know that I will never be perfect nor do I ever want to be. I am perfectly imperfect, a work in progress. Dr. Steve Maraboli, says, “You are a beautiful creation….perfectly imperfect….a work in progress….you have everything you need to fulfill your purpose….don’t dilute yourself for any person or any reason….you are enough….be unapologetically you.”
I compare perfection equivalent to being good. And as we know being good is the enemy of being great. Also, perfection implies that where you currently are is fine, and there is no need to continue to grow and develop yourself. If you are not growing or developing yourself, you might as well be dead.
We need to stop comparing ourselves to others that we perceive as being perfect and how we stack up to them. I guarantee 100% that they are not and have to deal with their insecurities of striving for perfection. Instead, let us strive for growth and development. Let us embrace and accept our individuality, our uniqueness, our quirkiness, and our craziness. Let us embrace being perfectly imperfect. As the late Marilyn Monroe stated, “Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring. “
